I am not a morning person, which is not helpful when I need to be up very early and say, go to work on a regular basis. The problem of not being a morning person is compounded by being a night-owl ~ vampire meets early bird, ugh, it's ugly. Last night, Sunday, I stayed up until 2 a.m., tweaking . . . a LEGAL MEMO ~ yes really, no I was not, and never have "tweaked" all night, unless you count re-working legal Memos and general law-school-panic-studying. Anyway, I was up very late. I tried to do laundry at the same time but that required my having to walk out of our building, down a flight of stairs, in the freezing cold, into our little laundry room where some homeless guy was hanging out for a while . . . did I mention it's freezing? and 2 am? and I am wearing little more than a t-shirt and sweats . . and big blue fuzzy slippers that really don't fit well on the stairs because the steps aren't really up to code ~ and, oh it had the makings of disaster written all over it. I guess I was pretty tired when I put my clothes in the dryer because when I went back down at 2 am, I realized I had put the money in the wrong dryer and dried my neighbor's clothes . . . mine still sat there, soaking wet in the dryer, getting icy even because it's so cold out. There was a lot of hushed cussing on my part and shuffling back up the icy steps, in big fuzzy slippers, at 2 am. So I fell asleep a little later, thinking I would actually get up when the alarm went off at 6 am . . . I overslept, I realized I had a doctor's appointment, my clothes were still downstairs outside in the cold, and I had no coffee.
Mondays. Ugh.
Anyway, I had 10 minutes to get from Lake Merritt in Oakland to the Albany/Berkeley border for my doctor's appointment. Let me tell you, speeding along highway 580 is a lot more fun with Rapper's Delight blaring on the radio. Yup, the 1979 hit by The Sugarhill Gang was blaring on Renel's Record Party on 98.1 KMEL this morning and it was just what I needed to, ahem, hit the gas and make it to my appointment in time, not to mention give me an attitude adjustment for the day. You cannot be grumpy, even on a cold crappy Monday morning after hearing Rapper's Delight ~ I mean, c'mon, visions of me "as a wee lass" at birthday parties at the suburban roller rink ~ how hilarious can it get? C'mon now, admit it, you know you tried to act all cool as you rushed to the floor at the roller rink when Rapper's Delight came on . . .
♪♪ i said a hip hop the hippie to the hippie
the hip hip hop, a you don't stop
the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
skiddlee beebop a we rock a scoobie doo ♪♪
Ahhh yeah, those were the days ~ when we all had braces and bad hair and corduroy bell-bottom pants . . . oh wait, was that just ME ? Ahh well, the funny memories and loud song cheered me up on the way to my doctor's appointment AND reminded me also of that Rapping Easter Bunny which was floating around the Internet in April ~ it was quite a fun drive this morning . . . and after Rapper's Delight? "How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees ~~ ohh yeah, slow-skate . . . for couples only ~ sigh. I miss those simple days.
No really, I was not tweaking all night ~ I do not tweak at night, I do not tweak in flight, I do not tweak in cars, I do not tweak in bars . . .
because reality is so much more fun . . .
~ :)
That song is fan-dam-tastic.
